Walk Summary
Good parking for several cars at Iturriotz
First P600 of this trip so I chose this northerly option as it follows what I hoped would be an established and straight forward path along the GR34.
Starting from Venta de Iturriotz, an historic trading point at junction of several tracks, where there is ample parking.
Apart from the weather all went to plan, getting well rained on during the descent. The route from Iturriotz is following the well worn path along the GR34 to Refugio Ernio where during the season looks like you can buy refreshments. Good signage from the refugio takes you round Ernio summit to the south before turning left at a col with what was reminiscent of the Lone Sycamore on Hadrian's Wall.
One minor concern was the preponderance of red and white tape persistently suggesting I should not be taking this route. I did wonder if there had been a landslide but unfortunately turns out a light aircraft crashed the week before killing two, near Ernio summit and the tape was there because it had not been collected.
